Highlights & Lowlights
Most of June, crammed into one big post.

icy stars
Holy crap, it's been a month since I've updated! Not for lack of things to share; I've just been super busy this month (still am, actually). Sorry if this ends up all scattered; I'm just piecing together what I remember from pictures. Not in chronological order, but it's all from this month, so it shouldn't matter.

My 26th birthday was this month! I never got around to planning anything special, and then it just kind of crept up on us, so there was less celebrating than I'd have liked, but I still had fun. Amy had given me most of my presents a week earlier: subscriptions to photography magazines, the latest David Sedaris book, and an itunes gift card. On my birthday, she came home from work with a bunch of balloons and we went out to eat at one of my favorite Mexican places.

Photobucket

They put the big birthday sombrero on me while they sang. Man, it was heavy!

Photobucket

Photobucket

They also brought me this chocolate sundae, which I pretended to eat, since I don't like chocolate & didn't want to look rude. Amy was too full to "share with me" (i.e. eat it for me!), so I had to move it around a lot & try to make it look like I ate some! I dumped some of it in her soda glass, which probably looked a lot less inconspicuous than I'd hoped, lol.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Happy Birthday to me!

Photobucket

I forgot to make a wish!

Photobucket

Photobucket

My cake is super moist & yummy, with delicious buttercream frosting, but omg, the frosting is sooooo rich! It's hard to make it through a whole cupcake. (Been working on it for a few days now & have just discovered the small cake in the middle is better than the surrounding cupcakes, because there's a better cake to frosting ratio.)

Photobucket

Shared some with Princeton! Specifically, the cupcake I dropped on the floor while taking all those pictures, lol.

Photobucket

This was a couple days later. We attempted to have a nice time at the park, brought along some board games & my balloons (for pictures, of course!), but it was super windy & we had to leave. Boo! (I'm ultra-sensitive to wind & can't be out in it w/o earmuffs or earplugs, neither of which I had with me, or else I get a horrendous headache at best & really sick at worst. Definitely got a headache & was cranky because of it!)

Photobucket

We finally got around to doing something cute with our kitchen cabinets!

This hung on our fridge for a week before I noticed the phrase printed at the top, lol. (Don't bother trying to make sense of it. It is not Amy's way to make any sense at all.)

Photobucket

Watermelon! It's the second one I bought this year, but the first one we got to enjoy. Amy dropped the other one while trying to carry in too many groceries at once. Funny thing, a few weeks later, she also...

Photobucket

Dropped the milk while opening the car door! I was all, "Hahaha! Get the camera!" And in the time that it took her to get it & take the picture, you can see how much milk leaked out. Amy's temporarily banned from touching the groceries, lol.

Photobucket

Amy has joined a soccer league! This picture is crap, but you can at least see her there, with the yellow/green t-shirt on. Her team is really good & we're both so excited she's playing! It's a fun way to exercise, and it's good social interaction, too.

Photobucket

I was on the computer one day & felt Sasha rub against my leg, but when I looked beside me, she wasn't in the floor. When I saw where she actually was, I was all, "Haha, get the camera!" Looking at it now, I'm not so sure it'll be funny to anyone else, but Amy & I were all over it. We're such moms!

Photobucket

A big snail came up on our patio after it rained one day. I told Amy about it, and she (in all seriousness) started shouting, "Hurry up & get the camera! It's going to get away!" LOL. Apparently, I am faster than a snail, and I took plenty of pictures to prove it. :)

Photobucket

We went to the Starlight Parade for the third year in a row & were shocked to see how much the economic crisis had affected it. Nowhere near the number of floats we were used to seeing & most floats not as elaborate as past years' floats. It was so sad!

Photobucket

I took very few pictures (partly on account of forgetting my tripod at home: moving floats + nighttime + no tripod = a lost cause), and even fewer came out. But I guess if you've been on my f-list long enough, you've seen it already!

Photobucket

Amy & I took some pictures of ourselves afterward. :)

Photobucket

No, that's not a Photoshop effect; that's just camera settings.

Photobucket

Amy's sister & niece are in town, and the kid wanted to go fishing. Between all of us, I was the only one willing to touch the worms (Amy actually asked if there was someone who came along to bait the lines for us at this trout farm, LOL). I used to be a lot prissier, but then I hooked up with Amy & realized I had to be the tough one, because she's the worst! (Friends have invited us camping a few times, but we can never go, because she's afraid of bugs. Seriously!)

Photobucket

All was well, until the kid was catching 16" fish & Amy caught a tiny little 6" fish! This picture was not staged; it's literally the look that was on her face when she saw it, LOL! It was actually quite hilarious how personally she took it, too. She was all, "Wtf?! Let me try again! I know I can do better! Just one more time!" And then she'd catch another tiny fish, and the kid would catch another big one, LOL!

Photobucket

Eventually, she got over herself & held one of her tiny catches with pride! :D

Photobucket

I gave fishing a try, too. I did it once when I was 7, and by that, I mean my dad did everything for me except hold the pole, so I had no clue what I was doing. I bravely baited my line, but I flung it out like a flailing fag, lol. A big fish bit, but I didn't know how to reel it in, and I ended up losing it. I was disappointed, in a way, because I'd felt how heavy it was & was rather proud of myself for catching it. On the other hand, I was glad to have lost it, because Amy was already jealous enough of her niece, haha!

Photobucket

After losing the big fish, I caught a tree branch, and after that, a tiny fish. Amy felt better then, since she wasn't the only one who sucked. But I'm pretty sure she's going to beg me to take her back to that place, because she's like a gambler, always sure that one more try is going to turn her into a winner! I guess it's good that she's so optimistic. :) I would worry about the expense, but with her track record, I think it'll be a while before that's a concern, lol. (You pay according to the size fish you catch; obviously, larger fish cost more. We saw two guys spend over $400 on their catches!)

Photobucket

Also went to the zoo! Saw the grossest elephant shit ever. I expected it to be huge & all, but I wasn't prepared for how much it would pee at the same time (like, a lake!) & well, seeing it fall is a lot grosser than seeing it already on the ground! Did not help that the baby ate it. *gag*

Photobucket

They're currently building a new habitat for the monkeys, so for now, a bunch of them are in basement-like cages. It's so sad!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

This sea otter, omg, hilarious! He was totally giving himself a blow job, and this picture simply cannot express the graphic-ness of it. He'd pull it out of his mouth for a moment, and it was like a dog penis, all bright red & sticking out, and then he'd be back at it, bobbing his head and sucking away! We were all dying with laughter!

Photobucket

Photobucket

We saw a bat pee, and it was far less disgusting than the elephant's bathroom break. The bat flipped himself upside down (er, right-side up, actually!), took a pee, and then flipped back around to his normal, upside down position.

Photobucket

More animal pictures here, if you're interested. Trying not to spam with every picture I took; I'm sure you guys care more about people pictures!

Lots more things to share, but I think I'll save some for my next update, lest all your computers explode, thanks to my pic spam. Promise it won't be another month before I update again! :)

26th-Jun-2009 03:19 am (UTC)
I know, everyone is always shocked, like how can someone not like chocolate?! But I don't! I've only met two other people who don't, and they were both guys.
26th-Jun-2009 03:33 am (UTC)
One of my old classmates hated chocolate xD and he always got a lot of it! But you don't like anything with chocolate? or just only-chocolate stuff?
26th-Jun-2009 03:47 am (UTC)
I don't really like anything that has much chocolate in it. Except tootsie rolls, those are good & not too chocolaty!

That last comment was me. Obviously I wasn't logged in...oh well.
26th-Jun-2009 06:15 am (UTC)
No prob. Thanks for letting me know, though! I always wonder when someone forgets to sign an anonymous comment. :)
26th-Jun-2009 06:37 am (UTC)
ahh too much too comment about all at once! great post!

the polar bear and tiger pictures are LOVEEEEEEEE!

everything was *lol*

being a mum to sasha, thats very me & kisa! I'm so glad amy is all 'get the camera!' too, coz adam is like 'whyyyyyyy' all the time... *sigh*

oh oh oh, I adore your kitchen! where did you get your cabinet stickers from? they just peel off right? they look so so so good!

I'm glad you had a good birthday! it's not over though ~ I have a package for you still!
26th-Jun-2009 06:52 am (UTC)
Yeah, I guess the celebrating will continue, because you're not the only one to send a package late. I have things to look forward to! :)

Amy is supportive of the pictures, until I start forcing her to be in too many of them! She has to be in the mood for it, whereas I'm pretty much always camera-ready! Even when I was a baby, I wanted the attention on me. My parents have a video tape of a joint bday party for me & my sister, where I think she was turning 1 & I was turning 3. I got up on the coffee table & starting dancing for the camera, haha!

We love our cabinets now, too! They were so bland and boring before. I got the decals at Dollar Tree, where everything is $1. They came on sheets, which I bought about 12-15 of (had a few left over). They have other designs, too - fairies, butterflies, all kinds of things. If you want me to get you some, let me know! They peel off w/o leaving any damage.
26th-Jun-2009 06:55 am (UTC)
ooooooooh yes I would love some! =o you can't really decorate kitchens much apart from cute appliances and MUGS! I have wrapping paper on my fridge, cupcake paper of course ^^

my flat is in a butterfly spring summer mood at the moment, I have butterfly hanging mobiles and window stickers up =) I'd appriciate it! maybe some flower ones too ^^ I can pay by paypal or just make sure your package is super <3 (no chocolate) hehe

thankyou!
26th-Jun-2009 07:05 am (UTC)
Okay, I'll go over tomorrow & see what they have in the way of flowers & butterflies. I actually bought some big butterflies that I ended up deciding not to use, and I had already thrown away the receipt & couldn't return them, so I'll send those, too. :)

A super package sounds nice! I feel weird exchanging money, when you've sent me such cool things already. Sometimes when I talk about you (I talk about all my internet friends), Amy is like, "Now she's the one who sends you letters with those cute stickers & things, right?" :D
26th-Jun-2009 07:07 am (UTC)
hahaha squeeeeeeee thast makes me happy! exactly how I wanst to be thought of ^^

ok I'll make the package extra special in return =)

I'm trying not to make typos n stuff but I actually feel really ill and your page is so bright!
26th-Jun-2009 07:06 am (UTC)
I want to see your fridge!
26th-Jun-2009 07:08 am (UTC)

26th-Jun-2009 09:29 am (UTC)
What a bunch of lovely memories! <3
I'm glad you are having a wonderful month, regardless it's stressing or not :3
26th-Jun-2009 09:30 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Having lots of fun isn't stressful; it's just all the chores, errands, and projects that pile up on you when you're out having fun! I'll get through everything, I know, but right now, it's like a mountain of stuff to do!
26th-Jun-2009 01:41 pm (UTC)
Super happy you had a good month! <3
26th-Jun-2009 09:30 pm (UTC)

I love love LOVE what you did with the kitchen cabinets, they look so beautiful!!!!
29th-Jun-2009 11:09 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I LIVE on pizza! But I don't care for CocaCola (love Pepsi, though!). Nothing shocks me, though, since I don't like chocolate & no one ever understands.

Hope you're having fun in Argentina!

Looks like a fun month :) I was amused by the heels you wore out fishing ;)

2nd-Jul-2009 12:39 am (UTC)
Well, what else would I wear? I would have to borrow shoes not to, lol.
2nd-Jul-2009 10:47 am (UTC)
I have the exact same comment as Erin - I love the fact you're wearing heels when you're fishing :D

No, I've not posted your birthday gift yet. Yes, it is still sitting in the bag I bought it in. I am on maternity leave in two week so shall post it then. Yes, I am the slackest friend ever.
